Introducing Miguel, Rob, Felipe, Gabi, Leandro and Josie

accomplished samba artists who are highly skilled at

teaching newcomers the basics and extending the abilities of experienced

drummers, musicians and dancers.

They work together to develop and nurture the ability and talent of

every member of Unidos de Aotearoa.

Miguel
 

Our founder and cavaquinho-playing Carioca, Miguel, is a professional musician who also heads 

Copacabana Beat and Samba dos Amigos.

​

Unidos de Aotearoa Samba School Artistic Director Rob

Rob
 

Rob has been studying, playing and teaching  samba in London,

Rio de Janeiro,  mainland Europe and Aotearoa New Zealand since 2001.

Unidos de Aotearoa Samba School Artistic Director Felipe

Felipe
 

Born in São Paulo, Felipe inherited his love for samba and carnaval from his grandfather, who was a respected samba songwriter in the 80s.

Unidos de Aotearoa Samba School Artistic Director Gabi

Gabi
 

Gabi, born and raised in Brazil, is a dancer, choreographer and instructor. In 2016, she established Samba Passion, a school that teaches dance and changes lives.

Unidos de Aotearoa Samba School Artistic Director Leandro

Leandro
 

Raised in Encantado, Rio de Janiero, Leandro joined the Brazilian music scene in NZ in 2021 and founded Zirigidum to bring ‘roda de samba’ to Aotearoa.

Unidos de Aotearoa Samba School Artistic Director Josie

Josie
 

Josie, originally from Buenos Aires, is a dancer, instructor, graphic designer, mum and choreographer for the Brazilian Divas. Dancing is her happy place!
